Suse is quite bloated, however I attempted to "trim" it down. It starts up, runs and shuts down fast. With only using 2.5GB for the image files.
I did install pretty much all applications "most" people will want.

Parallels MacBook Linux distributions are becoming more popular. People don't want to have to download the linux ISO, burn it, install Linux, update Linux, install basic software, configure kernel and setup custom screen sizes. It takes a lot of time.
So below you will find turn-key downloadable distributions for the MacBook/Pro. If you cannot get these via bit torrent - please use this cheap page I made and spend 7 bucks for an uncompressed DVD sent to you in the mail.
Or look below for the BT tracker downloads.
Thanks!

Power of the Rat!
Xubuntu is much faster than Ubuntu due to the Xfce interface (vs Gnome as in Ubuntu). This is tweaked and tuned for the Macbook. All updates, drivers and patches are complete as of 10.30.06. Screen rez is proper @ 1280x800 for the beautiful Macbook.
Get this if you always wanted to try an Xfce Linux distro, but may have been intimidated by the interface. Xfce is probably my favorite X environment.
I did install pretty much all applications "most" people will want.
All codecs neeed: VLC, Mplayer etc.
Great programming tools!
Python IDE
NVU (wysiwyg HTML)
Ruby IDE

Ubuntu 6.10!
New, fresh and tuned for your MacBook.
This
Parallels Image of Ubuntu 6.10 is all up-to-date as of 10/28/06. Many
"good" packages are installed and configured.
Some repositories changed etc.
All codecs (with Mplayer and VLC) are installed.
FireFox 2.0
Automatix2
OpenOffice 2.0
GNU Cash (Money)
Any many more updates!
iSite does not work - no surprise.
Please read the nfo file for more info.
This image is tuned and patched for the Macbook (although these images are being used on other Intel Macs). You must have Parallels to use this image! As always with my images - 1280x800, tuned and updated. Just download the folder (then I would burn to a DVD) - unzip and run. Nothing to configure. If it gets "messed up" - just trash it and unzip off the DVD again. Fresh and new.

Ok, so I'm not a programmer. I don't write code and stay up all night. So do I really have bisnach rights when it comes to "obvious apps needed for OSX"? Well, I'm not going to bisnach. Let's just state the obvious.
FileZilla. : All other FTP clients basically suck for OSX. FileZilla source code is available for free. Until some nice person/people make it available for OSX, the only real alternative is FireFTP - the Firefox extension.
uTorrent : It's the fastest and cleanest BT client out there. Sure there is Azureus or Transmission (both which are free) but that cannot compare to the ease of use and speed of utorrent.
TurboLister : (for the wife) It's the way people use eBay. OSX users now have an app called "Garage Sale" (I believe), and that may be good - but you have to buy it.. eBay needs to port TurboLister for all users - not just Microsoft junkies. There is a petition going around to have them do it too.
TrueCrypt : Ok, TrueCrypt just needs to be "OS independant" first of all. I should be able to encrypt then decrypt on another OS. But yes, an OSX version - let's get moving.
Again, I thank all the hard work that went into making these app's in the first place. However, most of us are crying for ports. Before anybody makes yet another crappy FTP client - please, just practice with porting first.
Before we have some contest on who can make a cool app for OSX - we should have the ground covered first instead of getting another WeatherBug. ;)
But maybe it's just me.

So I finally upgraded from the older XP Athlon series. With the demand for faster gaming and video editing, it was that time. The XP Barton 2800+ (overclocked to 3200+) played all current games as of today at max everything. But it was getting tired.
I scored a Biostar TForce4U 939 motherboard from Newegg for $28.00 - "Open Box". Added with a cheap 64 3200+ Venice core ($50.00). I had existing 512MB x2 Corsair "value" RAM.
With the stock cooler I am able to push this CPU to 2.55Ghz. Thats 550Mhz over stock. Running about 30c at idle and around 39c load. It's still very cold.
To achieve this, I change the FSB of the RAM from 400 to 333. Then just moved the CPU FSB to 255.
Have not done the math yet to figure out what my RAM FSB really is now.
Attempted to run it at 2.6Ghz, however that resulted in a reboot (could need more vcore - not sure yet).
Although, I think it's the cheaper RAM. Might need some Balistix to really overclock.
The case I'm using is the LanBoy Ultra. Basically, it has 120mm fans (one in, one out). This keeps things inside cold and quite.
If you look close, you can see speedfan running by the clock. I have it setup to auto-start with the system.
I'd be curious if anybody els has this motherboard/chip combo and see what could be done as for overclocking it.
All-in-all, it was a cheap upgrade. Great bang for the buck.
I'll keep it until I cannot play current games at "max everything". I am prepping for Quake Wars. It's time to put the medic suit back on.
GG~
