Overclock - with ease.
So I finally upgraded from the older XP Athlon series. With the demand for faster gaming and video editing, it was that time. The XP Barton 2800+ (overclocked to 3200+) played all current games as of today at max everything. But it was getting tired.
I scored a Biostar TForce4U 939 motherboard from Newegg for $28.00 - "Open Box". Added with a cheap 64 3200+ Venice core ($50.00). I had existing 512MB x2 Corsair "value" RAM.
With the stock cooler I am able to push this CPU to 2.55Ghz. Thats 550Mhz over stock. Running about 30c at idle and around 39c load. It's still very cold.
To achieve this, I change the FSB of the RAM from 400 to 333. Then just moved the CPU FSB to 255.
Have not done the math yet to figure out what my RAM FSB really is now.
Attempted to run it at 2.6Ghz, however that resulted in a reboot (could need more vcore - not sure yet).
Although, I think it's the cheaper RAM. Might need some Balistix to really overclock.
The case I'm using is the LanBoy Ultra. Basically, it has 120mm fans (one in, one out). This keeps things inside cold and quite.
If you look close, you can see speedfan running by the clock. I have it setup to auto-start with the system.
I'd be curious if anybody els has this motherboard/chip combo and see what could be done as for overclocking it.
All-in-all, it was a cheap upgrade. Great bang for the buck.
I'll keep it until I cannot play current games at "max everything". I am prepping for Quake Wars. It's time to put the medic suit back on.
GG~
